What is your role in the DIPLOMICS network?
Genomics Coordinator/Genomics Domain Expert. Role includes capturing information regarding genomics platforms across South Africa and providing updates relating to technology advancements. Communicating with the various DIPLOMICS network labs to learn about their current infrastructure and their requirements for training, service/maintenance support and specialised equipment.
What do you enjoy most
about your work?
Meeting the scientists from the different labs that form part of the DIPLOMICS network and learning more about the projects they are involved with as well as the service offerings they provide. Also, meeting with the suppliers and distributors in the OMICS industry to hear about the latest available technologies and their various applications.
Why is the Omics industry so important in South Africa?
The OMICS industry in South Africa is growing rapidly with a focus on innovative research and having access to recently developed technologies. With the various OMICS fields working together, we are able to achieve multiple goals in a manner that promotes local collaboration and increases the impact of research efforts by South African labs and institutions.

Rosalind Franklin, an inspiring female scientist, for her role in the discovery of the structure of DNA. She was able to contribute in several significant ways to various fields of research, which many today still continue to benefit from.
