ABOUT
This course highlights the technologies of metabolomics and proteomics for plant biotechnology. Equal time will be given to lectures and hands-on exercises. Topics include an introduction to biological liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), targeted and untargeted methods for metabolomics, metabolite identification, quantitation in LC-MS/MS, web resources for plant molecular biology, ontologies for plant research, and RNA-Seq for organisms lacking published genomes.
This course will help participants improve their theoretical understanding of mass spectrometry for plant biology as well as their skills at using OpenMS and other bioinformatics resources.
Workshop content:
Introduction to liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry
Targeted vs. untargeted metabolomics approaches
Metabolite identification and quantitation using LC-MS/MS
Use of web resources for plant molecular biology
Ontologies to support plant research
RNA-Seq applications for species without published genomes
In collaboration with:
Oliver Kohlbacher, Samuel Wein, and Tom Müller (University of Tübingen, Germany)
Steffen Neumann (Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry, Germany)
David Tabb (University Medical Center of Groningen, The Netherlands)
