What is your role in the DIPLOMICS network?

I function as a Business Analyst, which basically means among other things I help to gather and analyse data and information on the omics industry in South Africa to establish trends and a representative picture.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy getting to interact with and work with a large number of diverse stakeholders as we have a number of labs that are part of our network. I also enjoy learning about the types of work and research the network is doing and its contribution to the eradication and understanding of different societal problems.

Why is the Omics industry so important in South Africa?

The OMICS industry has a lot of practical value and good that it does. But it also highlights the potential of science and research in South Africa. It is an investment in the future of our country and our continent.

What are your favourite past times?

Reading, hiking and walking.

Describe someone who is an inspiration in your life, and why.

Aung San Suu Kyi, who is a political activist and freedom fighter from Myanmar. To me, she embodies sacrifice of the self for the greater good.
