Upcoming Training

The Combined: Project Planning and ONT lab Workshop workshop has both a theory and wet lab practical component and will take place over 4 days. The first day (17 November 2026) is a joint event with the UPGL general NGS project planning workshop.

This workshop then continues with the Oxford Nanopore Technologies theory, library preparation and sequencing from Wednesday 18 to Friday 20 November 2026.

The workshop will cover:

• Overview of NGS technologies.

• Sample QC and budget considerations for NGS projects

• Sample size, sampling, and metagenomics

• Bioinformatics workflows and budgets

• DNA extraction and quality checks

• Native Barcoding library preparation

• Library QC and flow-cell handling

• Oxford Nanopore Technology and MinKNOW

• MinION and PromethION loading

• kBase and 1KSA BIF workflows

For the successful applicants there will be an opportunity for participants to bring their own DNA linked to the 1KSA initiative for using during the workshop protocols.
