LEARNING OBJECTIVES
ABOUT
The South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB), in collaboration with DIPLOMICS, will be running a training workshop aimed at upskilling of researchers interested in whole genome sequencing using Oxford Nanopore technology (ONT). The training will include both laboratory as well as data analyses components.
The training will be held in person at NRF-SAIAB (Makhanda) and will cover the following topics:
• Understanding the mechanisms and chemistry behind Oxford Nanopore Sequencing
• Quality control and requirements of high molecular weight genomic DNA
• Hands-on experience of preparing genomic DNA for sequence analysis
• Practice loading flowcells
• Exposure to MinKnow (software used to conduct ONT sequencing)
• Preparation of raw data for genome assembly
• Whole genome assembly of raw data and evaluation of assembly quality
