An Introduction to Open Science (Workshop 1 of 3)

ABOUT

The workshop was the first in a 3-part workshop series. The 1-day workshop offered participants an overview and key principles of open science and highlighted ways to navigate and explore ways to incorporate open science in their daily research practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have learned about the following:

  • Open science policies and recommendations relevant to the South African research community; 

  • Key open science concepts (terminology/vocabulary); 

  • Useful open science resources, including tools, platforms, repositories,  publications, communities, mentorship opportunities, and more; 

  • Basics of open licenses; 

  • Foundational knowledge, enabling them to attend follow-up workshops to learn about applying open science principles in practice.
